We are in the midst of the unsettling season of Lent, and an unsettling time of national anxiety due to the Covid-19 virus. I write to let you know that in an emergency meeting of Board members and other church leaders last night we have decided to care for our congregation and our neighbors by closing the church facilities to members and outside organizations beginning immediately, and remaining closed until at least Monday, March 30th. We acknowledge that this is a drastic step, but it is the kind of step that is needed for the eradication of this virus. It is a Lenten sacrifice reminding us of Jesus’ journey to the cross, a choice that is tough to do, yet a blessing to all.
In the meantime, we encourage you to make use of this time of separation from our usual activities to have personal and/or family devotional reading, prayer for our needs and the world’s brokenness, and some quiet time to be alone with our Lord. We’ll be posting messages on our website (Lititzmoravian.org) during this time, so check in for updates.
Also, this Sunday, March 15, there will be an online worship service available, starting at 11 a.m. EDT. Follow this link to learn more about Moravian Church Without Walls (MCWW): https://www.moravian.org/2020/03/onlineworship3-15-2020/
We are the church, the beloved of the Lord, and we will walk through the valley of the shadow of death, fearing no evil because the Shepherd guides us through, and out of the valley. So let’s continue to care for one another by calling those you miss seeing, supporting those who face some extra hardships, shining the light of Jesus, and rejoicing when we get the wonderful privilege to worship together again! To help make that possible, your continued financial support by regular percentage giving is an even more significant sacrifice of praise. Also, if you know someone who does not have e-mail, please give them a call to make sure everyone is aware of these changes.
The church office will be open most of the regular hours to answer e-mails and phones, and you have two pastors and other staff and fellow members if you need for some help through this time; we are here for you. But understand that nursing homes and hospital visits might not be permitted for the time being. Please call before coming in to the Church Office to visit as we are trying to minimize physical contact during this time 717-626-8515. We will post updates on our website.
“God is our Refuge and Strength, a very present Help in times of trouble. Therefore we will not fear. Be still and know who is God!” (Psalm 46). May Jesus, our Refuge, our Strength, our Help enfold us in His caring embrace today and the days to come.
Our Lamb has conquered! Let us follow Him, Pastor Dean Jurgen
