Lititz Craft Show - August 10
Lititz Moravian Women to Provide Refreshments
On Church Square
During the Rotary Craft Show on Saturday, August 10, there will be a place on Church Square to rest and enjoy Moravian sugar cake, a fruit cup, a hot dog with sauerkraut, a bag of chips and coffee, ice tea or lemonade. Barbara Shultz, who is organizing the food stand for Moravian Women says, “There will also be baked goods and bottled water. We’ll fire up the grill at 6:30 a.m. and everything will be ready for the earliest Craft Show participants. We’ll remain open until 2:30 in the afternoon.”
Anette Raiser will coordinate the important task of making Moravian sugar cakes – a traditional cake recipe of yeast dough topped with brown sugar and butter. Anette says, “Our work begins early in our church kitchen where we bake the sugar cakes. It’s a long process – making the dough, waiting for it to rise, then baking and cooling.” On Friday evening volunteers will package the homemade baked goods and organize the supplies.
At 5:30 on Saturday morning, the canopies go up on Church Square. Shultz says, “We like to provide tables and chairs for our guests to enjoy their food and beverage or just sit and rest in the shade.”
Diane Bainbridge will organize and recruit volunteers to make over 100 fruit cups. Other Moravian women are responsible for the other food arrangements – hot dogs, rolls, sauerkraut, chips and drinks. According to Ann Watson the President of the Moravian Women, this is the seventeenth year that the women have sponsored the food stand. Another church group takes charge of the parking concession and the Moravian Gift Shop sets up a stand.
Proceeds from the food stand are shared with local service projects and the church’s Future Projects Fund.
