Becoming a Member of the Lititz Moravian Congregation
Perhaps you have worshiped with us and want to know how you might become a member of the Lititz Moravian Congregation. If so, just speak to one of the Pastors, or indicate your interest when signing the attendance registers, or by calling/emailing the church office, 717-626-8515 or <office@LititzMoravian.org> with any questions.
Those considering church membership are invited to an Inquirer’s Class that is usually scheduled twice a year, in the Spring and in the Fall. Both pastors conduct the series of informal and informative gatherings that present the Moravian way of living the Christian faith. The sessions present an overview of the history, customs and practices of the Moravian Church and an introduction to the many ways a person can be involved in ministry at Lititz Moravian Church.
New members are received by profession of faith and baptism, or if coming from another church, by reaffirmation of faith or letter of transfer of membership. Those baptized as children are received by confirmation and affirmation of their baptism.
In the liturgy of Baptism and Confirmation, two questions are asked.
1) Do you believe in God as your Creator and loving heavenly Father, in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, and in the Holy Spirit as your Comforter and Sustainer, according to the Holy Scriptures?
2) Do you in this faith turn away from sin, evil, and selfishness in your thought, words, and actions, and do you intend to participate actively in Christ’s Church, serving God all the days of your life?
Answering those two questions in the affirmative is followed by baptism (if not previously baptized) and church membership.
